Not everything we carry is ours: Breaking free from old patterns

Have you ever noticed yourself repeating patterns that don't seem to make sense?
Perhaps you find yourself constantly putting others first, feeling responsible for everyone else's happiness, struggling to set boundaries, or carrying guilt and shame that you can't quite explain.
Sometimes these patterns have roots that reach far beyond our own experiences.
We are born into families shaped by generations of beliefs, experiences, relationships, survival strategies and unspoken expectations.
And sometimes, without consciously realising it, we continue carrying those patterns into our own lives.
What once helped someone in our family survive may no longer serve the life we're trying to create.
These adaptive coping behaviours often develop as ways of protecting ourselves, maintaining connection or navigating difficult experiences. Yet what once helped us feel safe can eventually become the very thing keeping us stuck.
One of my clients described her experience of exploring these patterns so beautifully:
"These sessions give me an understanding and acceptance of what has happened in my life journey and a deep healing of the child still acting out the distress. It has made me calmer, kinder, more patient, reflective and forgiving. I love the visits to my past, and the peace that comes from taking my power back, in a loving and gentle way."
Awareness and compassion can begin to change our relationship with the past.
Through my work with DNA Matrix and advanced integrative kinesiology, we explore the deeply held beliefs, emotional responses and adaptive behaviours that may be influencing how you experience yourself, your relationships and the world around you.
This is a whole-person approach, working with the interconnected dimensions of body, mind, heart and spirit.
Rather than only talking about a pattern, we gently explore how stress and emotional experiences may be reflected in the body, creating opportunities for greater awareness, nervous system regulation and new ways of responding.
As another client shared:
"The thing I most value about these sessions is the opportunity to transform my thinking and feeling of the past."
Sometimes the most profound shift begins when we recognise:
I can honour where I come from without continuing everything that came before me.
We can love our families without carrying responsibility for their happiness.
We can acknowledge the pain of previous generations without allowing it to define our future.
We can begin to move beyond unconscious survival patterns and create a life guided by awareness, self-respect, compassion and conscious choice.
And sometimes, those changes become noticeable in the way we respond to situations and relationships that once felt overwhelming.
One client reflected:
"After our sessions the claustrophobic/panic attack feelings, imagined & real, have lessened. The inner stress has largely gone."
These are individual experiences, and every person's journey is different. But they all speak to the heart of this work: creating space to understand ourselves, recognise familiar responses and discover new possibilities.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of this journey is recognising that when we change the way we relate to ourselves, we also change what we bring into our relationships and what we pass on to those who come after us.
Healing isn't about rejecting our past or our ancestors.
It's about making peace with what has been, honouring the wisdom and resilience that brought us here, and giving ourselves permission to live differently.
To feel lighter. Freer. More grounded.
To return to the wholeness of who we are.
